Med-Or Monthly Africa Report | April 2026

The April 2026 edition of the Med-Or Monthly Africa Report is now online.

Prepared by the Africa team of the Med-Or Italian Foundation for Africa, the report delivers insights and expert analysis on the key trends shaping the continent’s future.

April has been an intense and productive month for Med-Or Africa: from meetings with high level officials in Nigeria and Djibouti, to participation in the Italian development mission to Kenya, both in Nairobi and in Kilifi County. Most of us are now back in Rome, to preparing to host Kenyan President William Ruto for a Med-Or public event highlighting Kenya’s vision for the future.

This month’s newsletter features contributions from our analysts:

   •  Matilde Vecchioni on the Sahel, where worsening security conditions are generating spillover risks across West Africa and reshaping Western engagement;

   •  Corrado Čok on how East Africa is increasingly affected by the Gulf crisis;

   •  Carlotta Ridolfi on Africa’s growing pushback against transactional approaches to critical minerals;

   •  Chepkorir Sambu on the rapid collapse of Macky Sall’s bid for UN Secretary-General;

   •  Luciano Pollichieni providing context on President Ruto’s visit to Italy.
