The Med-Or Italian Foundation for Africa was today received at the office of the Governor of Kilifi County, Hon. Gideon Mung’aro.
The Med-Or Italian Foundation for Africa, led by its Executive Director Umberto Tavolato, was today received at the office of the Governor of Kilifi County, Hon. Gideon Mung’aro, for high-level discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in key strategic sectors.
The meeting followed the recent inauguration of the Med-Or Africa Office, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Blue Economy and Mining. The engagement with the Kilifi County leadership represents a further step in advancing institutional partnerships at both national and county levels.
Discussions centered on the county’s priorities in fisheries development, safety at sea, and climate resilience. Particular attention was given to identifying practical areas of intervention aligned with Kilifi’s development agenda and the sustainable growth of its coastal economy.
Kilifi County holds particular significance for Italy. It hosts one of the largest Italian communities on the African continent and is home to the Luigi Broglio Space Centre in Malindi, the historic Italian space facility that has long symbolized scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries.
Between July and September, the Foundation conducted a field assessment in Kilifi County to better understand local needs and opportunities. Building on these findings, Med-Or is working in close collaboration with the Italian Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia to develop targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing capacity, sustainability, and economic opportunity within the sector.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to fostering long-term cooperation and promoting sustainable development in coastal communities.
