Med-Or takes part in the “Italy–African Space Leaders Meeting” in Malindi

Now in its third edition and jointly organized by Italy and Kenya, the event brought together over 30 space-sector leaders from 17 African countries.

On 9 and 10 February 2026, the third Italy – African Space Leaders Meeting was held in Kenya at the Luigi Broglio Space Center in Malindi. The event was hosted by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the Kenya Space Agency. The initiative reaffirmed the central role of the Malindi Centre as a symbol of the longstanding Italy–Kenya partnership and as a hub for training, innovation, and sustainable development for the African continent.

The meeting brought together over 30 space-sector leaders from 17 African countries, underscoring the growing recognition of space as a key domain for technological innovation, climate resilience, and socio-economic growth, while highlighting the need to strengthen cooperation, share expertise, and develop joint solutions to global challenges. This approach aims to foster the inclusion of emerging countries in the space sector through training, capacity building, and more informed and structured participation in the main international decision-making processes.

The initiative also fits within the framework of the Mattei Plan for Africa, through which Italy promotes a partnership model based on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and long-term impact.

Med-Or Italian Foundation took part in the event, represented by its Director for International Relations, Massimo Khairallah, who spoke during the session on 10 February to present the Foundation’s activities in support of Africa and the Mattei Plan, with a view to promoting initiatives and partnerships in the space sector. Med-Or is engaged in several high-tech projects, particularly in the fields of critical raw materials (CRMs) and cybersecurity, with a primary focus on training and local capacity building.
